Ice Cube
In this weeks art blog I’m working on a drawing of an ice cube. Over the last year i've made it a goal of mine to draw a bit more glass stuff/glass effects, and i figured that an ice cube is have the same thing going on as most glass I draw.
I think that it's both easy and a bit complex to draw something like this, because if you break it down, it is in fact just a square shape with grey tones. I started by making a square shape that i was happy with, and inside that square i made a another square. I tried to keep all edges rounded and natural. Then i sketched some of the different areas and details up, so i knew where i was gonna add different shades and highlights.
The coloring process for this drawing is actually simple enough. I've only used cool Greys and a colorless blender. Specifically cool Grey 1, 3, 5, and 7. I started out with the lighter tones and worked my way to the darker tones, except the places i knew that i was gonna have cool Grey 7 outlines and 'blocks.'
For tiny details i used a white gelly roll pen, and i also used my mechanical pencil for some of the cracks in the ice, and it worked surprisingly well.
