Neon Bar Sign
Hey everybody and welcome to my art blog. Today Im once again diving into some Neon effects... Since the glowy rose I made in the beginning of the year, Ive been wanting to try out some Neon letters, so I came up with this idea with a bar sign, and a bunch of different colors.
To create the Neon effects like this one, you need a light and a dark shade of the same color. So for example here Im using Yellow (Y06) and cadmium yellow (Y15) for the lemon and straw. I am using a white jelly roll pen for the center of the lightest color, to create a larger contrast against the black background I will create in the end.
For the martini glass I used Robins egg blue (B02) and process blue.(B05) And for the lettering I used sugared almond pink (RV02) and shock pink. (RV04) I Also outlined everything with a thick black outlined, as it makes it a lot easier to create the background. For the frame around the sign i used pale Aqua (BG000) and Frost blue. (B00)
The most challenging part of this drawing is the background. When I have to fill a large area with a dark color, I usually overfill my marker, so it's almost dripping with ink... Then I divide the areas I to smaller sections, where a break won't be as visible. That way I can keep refilling my marker to get the best flat surface. And black backgrounds like this usually requires two or three layers.
In the end I went over the drawing again a made a few touch ups where I might have hit some of the colored areas with the black, but then this drawing was complete. It was really fun to work with this effect again. And Im definitely gonna make more like this one the future.
